Sugar Cookies

Tender vanilla cookies with soft centers and a fine sparkling edge.

Ingredients

  • 1 3/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 2 tablespoons sanding sugar

Method

  1. Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  2. Beat butter and sugar until pale and fluffy.
  3. Mix in egg and vanilla, then fold in dry ingredients.
  4. Scoop dough, roll in sanding sugar, and flatten slightly.
  5. Bake at 350°F for 9 to 11 minutes, just until set.
